The "FUNAAB ALPHA" was developed after over 20 years of continuous research done by Prof. Olufunmilayo Adebambo, A Professor of Animal breeding and Genetics in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun state Nigeria. This was created by selective crossing of native chicken breeds from southwestern Nigeria.

KARI improved Kienyeji was bred by the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute(KARI), now known as Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Institute (KARLO) at their research centre in Naivasha, in collaboration with researchers from Egerton University, Njoro. The Kari Improved Kienyeji lays between 200 and 280 eggs, as compared to commercial layers that lay 300 eggs per year. It has better meat quality, less overhead costs, and greater disease resistance

The Boschveld chicken has not been approved as a registered breed in South Africa but has nevertheless become a preferred option for many subsistence and free-range farmers in various parts of Africa.

Farmer Mike Bosch developed the breed in 1998 on his farm in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, from a crossing of three indigenous breeds, namely, the Venda, Ovambo and Matebele. The breed is claimed to have captured the egg laying potential of the Venda, the size of the Matabele and the hardiness of the Ovambo.

With only a handful of professional breeders in Belgium breeding good quality animals, this breed is utra-rare. And with a risk of extinction. This bantam is the rose-combed variant of the Belgian bantam. A rose comb is a rather flat comb covered with round bumps ending in a thorn. Furthermore, this breed is completely identical to the Belgian bantam in all respects. The name Waasse bantam comes from the region of origin: the Land of Waas, west of Antwerp. This small chicken is also popularly called Steens Kieksken.

The Malinois was once one of the most important meat chickens in the world. After a difficult period, this quality chicken is again in great demand. It is a very imposing animal that is very calm and confidential. This breed of chicken grows to the same weight and size as a Brahma, but is much hardier and more resistant. Typical of the Malinois is the feathering on the legs and toes. The outer toes are fully feathered and the others have a few stubbles.

Dubbed the Dibbi-Biddi in the Wene wa Kongo, this diminutive chicken breed is among the oldest bantam breeds, and derives from small bearded chickens of the Low Countries. It is a true bantam, and has no full-sized counterpart; males weigh about 700 grams and hens about 600 g. The Dibbi-Biddi is a purely ornamental breed, kept either as a pet or by poultry fanciers for showing. Hens lay small creamy white eggs usually weighing less than 35 g; they are good mothers and good sitters. When we first introduced this breed to the BaKongo youth, they thought they were chicks. The local name Dibbi-Biddi is an Africanized name derived from the American Dibbies and Biddies. The which chicks mean in the states SC, NC, GA in the USA.

A centuries old sprinkled chicken breed. Hens of the breed are capable of laying 150 to 180 white eggs per year. The eggs are quite large and weigh about 65 grams.

They lay about 150 eggs per year and the eggs can weigh up to 100 grams. In combination with the heavy weight, it is a typical dual purpose chicken. The meat of the marans is therefore widely used. The eggs are being promoted in France because they do not contain salmonella. This is mainly due to the hard membrane and shell. 

A rare French breed of dual-purpose domestic chicken. Their main distinguishing feature is their unusual V-shaped comb. They are of medium size, with cocks usually weighing between 3.5–4 kg, and hens between 3–3.5 kg. Hens may lay about 180 white eggs per year, with an average weight of 60 g.

...dating back to at least the Roman conquest of the Iberian Peninsula. With a generous egg production of 160–180 large white eggs per year, with a weight of about 80 g.

Survives well in both heat and cold, and is one of the best layers around. A good layer of white eggs, laying an average of 280 per year and sometimes reaching 300–320, with a weight of at least 55 g.

Known for the unusual color eggs they lay, ranging from blue to turquoise. This breed is very resistant to diseases. The eggshell is thicker, so it rarely cracks when cooked. This thicker shell also reduces the chance of Salmonella in the egg.

Fluffy is an understatement. They are small birds with extravagant ornamental feathering, these little chickens require certain care and a particular environment to remain in good health and happiness. 

A Chinese breed of chicken known for its hyperpigmentation. It has a coat that looks more like hairy wool than feathers. The chicken has five toes on a leg instead of the usual four.

The Sumatra fowl is a typical Indonesian chicken breed that belongs to the gamefowl and long-tailed breeds. Sumatra chickens are best when allowed to free range and forage. Sumatra hens lay small white eggs and are non-setters.

Embden Geese are pure white, have a massive appearance, and are similar in size to the Toulouse. They are purebred, excellent for showing, and great for raising for meat production. Embden Geese have a fast growth rate, large size and will average 8-12 kilo.

They cannot be confused with any other breed as far as their appearance is concerned. They have a deep rump and a heavy abdomen, which does not touch the bottom, as the goose has long legs. On the long straight neck is a long head, bill knob and a very developed dewlap.

This turkey belongs to one of the Belgian varieties and is named after the place Ronquieres. At AOBA we breed them in the color sequence ermine (bright-white with black), blue ermine, yellow-shouldered and blue-yellow-shouldered. These animals belong to the drawing varieties and have to be bred with a lot of attention.

It originated from crosses between the domestic turkeys brought by European colonists to the Americas and the eastern wild turkeys they found upon their arrival. The hybrid vigor of this cross resulted in turkey stocks that were larger and more vigorous than the European birds, and they were also much tamer than wild turkeys. The coppery-bronze colored metallic sheen, which gives the variety its name, was part of the inheritance from its wild ancestors.
