About AOBA
History
The African Ornamental Breeders Association (AOBA). was established in 2019 by Congo/Belgian philanthropeneur
Jean Kiala-Inkisi. After a visit to Kenya, he saw the need for a club and breed standards because many Kenyans imported poultry from Europe but reared them for quantity rather than quality. And purebred animals where also often hard to find. Elsewhere in western and central Africa, he also noted that exotic breeds (European and Asian) imported via the African diaspora were beginning to gain in popularity. And this often at the expense of indeginous breeds. Inspired by the
EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF POULTRY, PIGEON, CAGE BIRD, RABBIT AND CAVY BREEDERS (Entente Européenne EE d'Aviculture et de Caniculture)
and the existing South African clubs
Poultry Club SA
and
Southern African Show Poultry Organisation (SASPO). He decided to set up an African counterpart. For the protection of native and for the monitoring of exotics breeds. The club mainly focuses on the West, Central and East Africa region. But it is also open to members from North and Southern Africa.
Achievements
September 2020
The International Studbook for Djallonké Goat & Sheep (ISDGS) was established. It was established at the request of breeders and regional studbook workings from Guinea, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, CAR, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rep.Congo, DR.Congo, Angola and Botswana.
March 2020
The International Studbook for Djallonké Goat & Sheep (ISDGS) was opened to European breeders of purebred sheep.
June 2022
The African Brahma Maniacs breeding program was started. A large shipment of Brahma hatching eggs was imported from Belgium to DR.Congo. Including hatching eggs from European Champion bloodlines (in the colors; Colombia white, Buff, Gold partridge, Silver partridge, Black) and also Gold quail, Silver quail, Blue-Black-White pearled and Salmon. And the breeding program for the Ayam cemani chicken breed was expanded.
January, February, March, April 2024
Several large shipments of hatching eggs were imported from Belgium to DR.Congo. Including hatching eggs from Malines chicken, Marans chicken, Emu, Silkies, Ayam cemani, Indian runner duck, Kholmogorskoye geese, Bruges fighter chicken, Belgian Ronquières turkey and American Bronze turkey
